⁷ Saul said to his servant, “If we go, what can we give the man? The food in our sacks is gone. We have no gift^(A) to take to the man of God. What do we have?”

⁸ The servant answered him again. “Look,” he said, “I have a quarter of a shekel^[a] of silver. I will give it to the man of God so that he will tell us what way to take.”

³ Take ten loaves of bread^(A) with you, some cakes and a jar of honey, and go to him. He will tell you what will happen to the boy.”

Feeding of a Hundred

⁴² A man came from Baal Shalishah,^(A) bringing the man of God twenty loaves^(B) of barley bread^(C) baked from the first ripe grain, along with some heads of new grain. “Give it to the people to eat,” Elisha said.

⁸ he said to Hazael,^(A) “Take a gift^(B) with you and go to meet the man of God. Consult^(C) the Lord through him; ask him, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”

⁹ Hazael went to meet Elisha, taking with him as a gift forty camel-loads of all the finest wares of Damascus. He went in and stood before him, and said, “Your son Ben-Hadad king of Aram has sent me to ask, ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”

¹⁹ You have profaned^(A) me among my people for a few handfuls of barley and scraps of bread.^(B) By lying to my people, who listen to lies, you have killed those who should not have died and have spared those who should not live.^(C)
